MI vs PBKS, Indian Premier League 2022 match no.23 was played yesterday between Mumbai Indians and Punjab kings at the Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium, Pune, on Wednesday, April 14. Punjab batted first and they made 198/5 in 20 overs. Mumbai made 186/9 in 20 overs.
Mumbai have won the toss and decided to ball first. Mayank Sharma (C) and Shikhar Dhawan both played an awesome knock. Mayank made 50 runs off (32) balls with the strike rate of 162.50 and Shikhar made 70 runs off (50) balls with the strike rate of 140.00. Jitesh Sharma played a very quick knock of 30 runs off (15) balls with the strike rate of 200.00.
Where as while chasing the target Mumbai Indians had sloppy start but Tilak verma made 36 runs off 18 balls with the strike rate of 180.00, Surya KumarYadav made 43 runs off 33 balls with the strike rate of 143.33, Dewald Brevis made 49 runs off 25 balls with the strike rate of 196.00 and Rohit Sharma made 28 runs off 17 balls with the strike rate of 164.71.
Punjab Kings not only performed well in batting but also they did a good job in the bowling department Odean Smith took 4 wickets in 3 overs with the economy of 10. Match was under the control of MI until the Brevis fell for 49 to Odean Smith after that MI started loosing wickets back to back.
Punjab has now on the 3rd position in the points table with the NRR of +0.239 and Mumbai is at the bottom of the points table with the NRR of -1.072.
The skipper of Mumbai Indians, Rohit Sharma was not happy with the performance of the team and they need to come back with better plan. He said ” It’s hardly anything to find out (any negatives), thought we played well, came pretty close to closing the game, a couple of run-outs didn’t help our cause. At one time, we were cruising along but didn’t hold our nerves, credit to PBKS for bowling well in the second half. We’re trying to play with a different thought process, but it’s not working out well. But I don’t want to take the credit out of the guys who played well and Punjab did so today,.”
