A tribute to Indian music composer and santoor Player Pandit Shivkumar Sharma, who died on Tuesday at the age of 84.
Legendary musician and santoor player Pandit Shivkumar Sharma died on May 10th. Jammu-born musicians are said to have popularized the once-unknown musical instrument Santoor. The legendary musician was awarded the prestigious Awards like Padma Shri in 1991 and the Padma Vibhushan in 2001.
The famous musician, who died in Mumbai, has been on dialysis and suffering from kidney problems for the past six months.
After his death, the fans flooded the internet with emotional messages of condolences on Twitter and paid the final respect to the master of Santoor. Fans remember seeing his live performance at Ahemdabad. “Pandit Shivkumar Sharmaji is no longer there. I was able to hear his live with Pandit Hariprasad Chaurasiaji.
Pandit Shivkumar Sharma has written the songs for several Hindi films, including Silsila, Chandni and Darr.
“Around 9 am he had a heart attack… He was active and was due to play for Bhopal next week. He was on dialysis regularly, but he was still active,” his family source told PTI.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi pays tribute to the maestro Santoor and says that our cultural world without him is poorer.
“Our cultural world is poorer with the demise of Pandit Shivkumar Sharma Ji. He popularised the Santoor at a global level. His music will continue to enthral the coming generations. I fondly remember my interactions with him. Condolences to his family and admirers. Om Shanti,” PM Modi tweeted.
