Facebook Protect, an enhanced layer of security for persons targeted by dangerous hackers, such as human rights campaigners, journalists, and government officials, was launched.
Have you activated Facebook Protect? Otherwise, Facebook may block your access to your account. In early 2021, Facebook introduced Facebook Protect, an additional layer of security for people under heavy attack from malicious hackers, including human rights defenders, journalists, and government officials. Several users in the target category received emails titled “Your account requires advanced security from Facebook Protect” and urged them to enable the Facebook Protect feature, otherwise Facebook would ban them from their account.
“As part of our ongoing security improvements, we’re expanding Facebook Protect, a program designed for people who may be heavily targeted by malicious hackers, including human rights defenders, journalists and government officials. of the government,” Facebook said. The social media giant explained that the people who should activate Facebook Protect are at the “center of critical communities for public debate”. They enable democratic elections, hold governments and organizations to account, and defend human rights around the world. Unfortunately, that also means they’re heavily targeted by bad actors.
When enabled, Facebook protects people’s accounts by enabling strong security protections such as two-factor authentication and monitoring for potential hacking threats. However, when Facebook sent an email to users whose accounts were under threat, they mistook it as spam because the Facebook email address security@facebookmail.com looked more like spam to users. Many people ignored the email, thinking it was another phishing scam.
Turns out it wasn’t really spam, Facebook was emailing users. The deadline to activate Facebook Protect was March 17, but most people ignored the email and are now banned from their account. A Facebook user named Olivia Theissen wrote on Twitter: “I was banned from Facebook indefinitely today for not responding to emails from FB (which looked like a scam) regarding the new Facebook Protect system. I had to activate until today. So far text and security key options not working, many reports.
Many users who missed the March 17 deadline received a message from Facebook explaining why they were logged out of their accounts. Facebook also shared tips on how to get their accounts back, but it’s not working for many users. Some users are having issues with both logging in despite the Enabling Facebook Protect. Another user, doing business as ShawnDocket, said in a tweet: “I haven’t been banned yet, but when I try to enable this ‘feature’, the text message does not appear. not even. To be honest, I don’t know if being blocked on @Facebook would bother me much at this point.
However, users who have not received emails from Facebook may lose their account. Basically, you don’t have to do anything unless you receive a notification on Facebook that you are eligible to join.
