According to sources, the cabinet meeting for the new administration in Uttar Pradesh is on the agenda. The date of the swearing-in ceremony will also be addressed at the meeting, they said.
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath met Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Delhi this evening, three days after he secured a second consecutive victory for the party in the national elections, beating Akhilesh Yadav of the Samajwadi party.
“I met Yogi Adityanath ji today. I congratulated him on his historic victory in the UP elections. For the past 5 years, he has worked tirelessly to fulfill people’s wishes.
I am sure that he will in the years to come, he will lead the state to greater heights of development,” Prime Minister Modi tweeted after the two-hour meeting. According to sources, the agenda included talks with the cabinet of the new government of Uttar Pradesh.
During the meeting, the date of the swearing-in was also discussed, they added. In one of the biggest upsets of an otherwise spectacular show, the party’s number two in Uttar Pradesh, Deputy Prime Minister Keshav Prasad Maurya lost the election.
He lost in Sirathu by around 7,000 votes to Samajwadi party ally Pallavi Patel of the Apna Dal (Camerawadi). In addition to Keshav Maurya, 10 other ministers lost the election. Yogi Adityanath was a member of the Legislative Council until that time when he contested his first general election and won in the urban constituency of Gorakhpur.
After meeting the Prime Minister, Yogi Adityanath met with BJP Chairman JP Nadda.
Earlier in the day, the UP Chief Minister met with BJP (Organization) General Secretary BL Santhosh and Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu.
The BJP won 255 seats in the 403-person assembly. His two allies won another 18 seats.
