Famous Punjabi singer and rapper Sidhu Moose Wala, who had joined Congress before the Punjab election, has been shot dead.
Moose Wala was running in the by-elections for the Congress ticket from Mansa. He was defeated by Dr Vijay Singla of the AAP by 63,323 votes.
Who is Sidhu Moose?
Shubhdeep Singh Sidhu, better known as Sidhu Moose Wala was born in Moose Wala village in the Mansa district of Punjab on June 17, 1993. Moose Wala, who enjoys millions of fans, is famous for his criminal rap.
Moose wala holds a degree in electrical engineering and studied music during his college days. He later moved to Canada.

Coming from Moosa, a town in the province of Mansa, Moose Wala joined the ANC in the midst of a major uprising in November last year. As Congress handed him a ticket to the Mansa Assembly constituency, then-former Mansa MP, Nazar Singh Manshahia, rebelled against the party saying it would oppose the appointment of the controversial artist. Punjabi singer and Congress leader Sidhu Moose Wala was shot dead in Jawaharke village in the Mansa region of Punjab. Two others were injured when the assailants opened fire on the jeep they were traveling in.
The attackers are not yet known. The attack came just days after the Punjab government withdrew a security guard of 424 people, including Moose Wala.
Moose Wala is known for his controversial Punjabi songs, which openly promote gun culture and honor criminals.
His song ‘Jatti Jeonay Morh Di Bandook Wargi,’ released in September 2019, provoked outrage over the reference to 18th century Sikh hero Mai Bhago. He was accused of putting a negative light on a Sikh hero. Moose Wala later apologized. Another song, ‘Sanju’, also sparked controversy in July 2020. The song was released after Sidhu Moose Wala was granted bail in an AK-47 shooting. In a song posted on social media he compared himself to actor Sanjay Dutt.

He was indicted under the Arms Act after a video clip of himself shooting in Barnala village was broadcast on social media in May 2020. However, he was later granted bail by a Sangrur court. Punjabi musician Sidhu Moose Wala was shot dead by unknown assailants in Jawaharke village in Mansa district on Sunday, May 29.
This comes a day after Punjab police withdrew the security of 424 people, including Punjabi singer Sidhu Moose Wala. Sidhu Moose Wala contested this year’s Punjab election with a congressional ticket from Mansa and lost to AAP candidate Vijay Singla by 63,000 votes. Vijay Singla was recently fired by Punjab CM Bhagwant Mann on corruption charges.
Last month, Sidhu Moose Wala removed the noise after identifying the Aam Aadmi Party and its supporters in his song ‘Scapegoat’. The singer called AAP fans ‘gaddar’ (traitor) in his song.
Words of condolence are poured out on Sidhu Moose Wala
Condemning the death of the Punjabi musician, Congress leader Randeep Singh Surjewala wrote on Twitter, “We are deeply saddened by the assassination of Sidhu Moose Wala this afternoon. ”
