According to WABetaInfo screenshots, once a message has been marked as forwarded, it can’t be forwarded to more than one group.
WhatsApp, the popular instant messaging app, continues to add new features and improvements to make the platform more functional and safer for its users.
The company is now imposing a new restriction on forwarding messages. Android and iOS users cannot forward a message to multiple groups.
WhatsApp tracker WABetaInfo has noticed the latest change in WhatsApp beta for Android and iOS. The portal also posted screenshots of the feature, showing an alert that appears when users attempt to forward a message to multiple group chats.
The new feature was spotted in WhatsApp beta versions 2.22.7.2 for Android and 22.7.0.76 for iOS. According to WABetaInfo screenshots, once a message has been marked as forwarded, it cannot be forwarded to more than one group.
If a user tries to forward a message that has already been forwarded to another group, they will receive a notification that says “Forwarded messages can only be sent to one group chat.” This is the latest limitation of WhatsApp message forwarding, which has already been linked to the spread of misinformation in India and abroad.
According to the WABetaInfo report, the new group transfer limit was previously rolled out for some Android beta testers, but is now being extended to more beta testers as well as the WhatsApp for iOS beta.
WhatsApp limited the number of people a user could forward a message to just five people in 2018. This initiative started in India and expanded globally in January 2019. This comes just days after WhatsApp updated its Android app to include new voicemail features.
Draft preview, ability to pause/resume message and playback outside chat, which is another nickname for global voice note reader, are the six new features added to WhatsApp voice notes. WhatsApp also adds resume playback for voice memos as well as waveform visualizations.
