KANPUR, Uttar Pradesh: Twenty-five passengers were injured, seven of them seriously, after a State Road Transport Corporation (SRTC) bus crashed into a bridge on the Kanpur-Lucknow highway in the Uttar Pradesh region of Unnao early Saturday morning.
The injured passengers were taken to a regional hospital.
According to police, the accident happened around 2am when a SRTC bus from Kanpur depot in Azad Nagar was en route to Kanpur from Lucknow.
The driver lost control of the vehicle and was taken to a bridge at the intersection of Azad Marg Road.
Police were called to the scene and rushed the injured to the local hospital with the help of an ambulance. Few among the critics have been transferred to Kanpur.
“There was panic and chaos between the passengers. At the sound of loud noises, locals rushed to the scene and with the help of the police removed the trapped passengers and took them to the district hospital with the help of ambulances,” police added.
The passengers suspected that the driver of the vehicle was traveling at high speed which caused damage.
“Following the investigation, action will be taken against the driver,” said ASP Shashishekahr Singh.
