On a two-day visit to his home state, the Prime Minister will take part in a number of formal activities.
In the wake of a dramatic general election victory in Uttar Pradesh and staying in power in three other states, Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in the next electoral state – Gujarat – today for a grand reception. The Prime Minister is on a two-day visit to his home country to attend several official events. He will address the Gujarat Panchayat Mahasamman tonight, which will be attended by more than a lakh of representatives from the three tiers of Panchayati Raj institutions in the state.
Driving in an open-top Jeep decorated with flower garlands, Prime Minister Modi greeted the hundreds of supporters and admirers who had gathered along the route as his tour started from the airport in Kamalam, the BJP state headquarters in Gandhinagar. Kamalam is about 10 km from the airport. Gujarat Prime Minister Bhupendra Patel and BJP State Chairman CR Patil were seen alongside Prime Minister Modi in the vehicle. General elections in Gujarat will be held later this year, although dates have yet to be announced. “Leaving for Gujarat where I will participate in various programs today and tomorrow. Today at 4 p.m. I will be addressing a Panchayat Maha Gathering which will be attended by several representatives of the institutions of the Panchayati Raj,” he tweeted yesterday.
Tomorrow at 11 a.m., the Prime Minister will inaugurate the Rashtriya Raksha University (RRU) building to the nation. He will also deliver the RRU’s first convening speech as a keynote speaker. He will open the 11th Khel Mahakumbh at around 6:30 p.m. on March 12 and deliver a speech on the occasion, according to a press release from his office. Its roadshow comes just a day after the BJP won 4 out of 5 states, including politically important Uttar Pradesh. The BJP also retained power in Uttarakhand, Manipur and Goa.
In Uttar Pradesh, the BJP and its allies won 255 seats in 403 constituencies. In Uttarakhand, the party won 47 seats out of 70. In Goa, the BJP won 20 seats out of 40 and garnered support from independent candidates, while in Manipur, the ruling BJP coalition won 31 seats. out of 60.
