Section 144 imposed in Maharashtra’s Aurangabad until May 9th. Complete list of restrictions.
The Aurangabad local government has decided to amend Section 144 of the Code of Criminal Procedure prior to the Large rally of Raj Thackeray’s scheduled for May 1.
Against the backdrop of a heated debate over the use of loudspeakers, Section 144 of the Criminal Code is in force until May 9 in the administrative district of Aurangabad.
The restraining order issued by Aurangabad Police Commissioner Nikhil Gupta was lifted in front of Maharashtra’s Navnirman Senna (MNB) Raj Thackeray’s rally is scheduled for May 1. This order will come into effect on 12:01am on May 25th.
Raj Thackeray, the head of Maharashtra, Navnirman Sena (MNS), said that on May 1 (commemorated as Maharashtra Day) a rally will be held to protest adhan’s reading from the loudspeakers on the mosque’s roof.
Earlier last week, the Maharashtra Provincial Police Chief ordered all state police to strictly abide by the High Court’s recommendations regarding the use of loudspeakers in line with the law and Raj Thackeray’s request to remove loudspeakers from mosques by May 3.
Section 144 is imposed, here is list of restrictions:-
1. Gatherings of more than 5 people are strictly prohibited in all public places.
2. Persons are not permitted to carry weapons, knives, sticks or guns.
3. Persons are not permitted to carry explosive materials.
4. Unable to make a any announcements.
5. Songs or sounds that may disturb public order are prohibited.
6. Protests and sit-ins are prohibited.
