Back in August 2019, Tylor Swift promised to re-record her first six albums after a deal leaving the basic rights to her catalogue in the hands of Scooter Braun. Brown bought the record from Swift’s previous label, the Big Machine Label Group. (About a year later, Braun’s Ithaca Holdings LLC sold her Swift catalogue to her private equity firm, Shamrock Holdings.) So far, they have released new editions of Fearless and Red. With the re-release of Red, Swift debuted at number 10 on the Billboard 200. Her 10-minute remastered version of “All Too Well” became the longest song on the Hot 100 and reached the top.
Swift’s last LP for Big Machine was Reputation, released in 2017. Two years later, the singer released her seventh studio album Lover, her debut album on her new home label, Republic. Moving away from the pop veneer version of this release, Swift has shared a few more practical albums in 2020: Folklore and Evermore. Both albums feature Swift in collaboration with National’s Aaron Dessner.
Writer Jenny was the first to hint that one of Taylor’s re-records would be part of the series, and on May 4th, Jenny Han posted a TikTok teasing fans. The clip ends with her asking her fans what songs should be included in her summer I Turned Pretty. However, it was not revealed that they would release one of the coveted re-records of “Taylor’s Version”.
And while you might have to wait for the Amazon Prime show to end, Taylor says “This Love (Taylor’s Version) is coming tonight.” at midnight.
Earlier this year, Swift was appointed Global Ambassador for Record Store Day 2022. She also took a course in a recently completed cultural course at the Clive Davis Institute for Recording Music at New York University. She later joined Ed Sheeran to create a new version of “Joker and the Queen” and preview the song “Carolina”.
Later this month, Swift will earn an honorary degree from New York University and will graduate in 2022. She will also greet her students and guests at the school’s opening ceremony on May 18th at Yankee Stadium.
