Suraj committed suicide ,the Parents of accused Suraj, who accompanied him to court, said their son had married the girl who accused him of the rape, but claimed that their parents had started demanding money from him.
Faridabad: A 21-year-old rapist who is accused jumped to his death from the sixth floor of a courthouse in Faridabad on Saturday after his bail application was heard. Defendant Suraj’s parents, who accompanied him to court, said their son married the girl who accused him of the rape, but claimed their parents started asking him for money.
He was upset by their request, they added.
Suraj was from Ghaziabad and worked in a private company in Faridabad. An FIR was registered against him at Kheri Pul police station on June 15 last year and he was arrested a week later. He was granted bail on August 11 and on Saturday he had arrived at the courthouse to attend his regular bail plea hearing, police said.
His parents said Suraj looked distraught when he walked out after the hearing. They said they were keeping their distance as Suraj jumped from the courthouse.
Police took him to hospital but doctors pronounced him dead Regarding the request of the girl’s parents, Suraj’s father said: They first asked for 5,000 rupees and then 10,000 rupees. Late they asked for Rs 15 lakh and our son was upset about that.
However, Suraj’s parents said they did not press charges against the girl and her parents.
We have not yet received a complaint from the family of the deceased. The body will be handed over to relatives after the autopsy, said Inspector Virender Khatri, SHO of Central Police Station.
