Brooklyn Subway Shooting: New York: At least 16 people were injured in a shooting at a New York subway station, local media reported.
The incident happened at 36th Street Station in Sunset Park in Brooklyn. A photograph taken at the scene showed people caring for the injured passengers lying on the ground.
The incident woke up a large number of police officers, and the suspect is still at large after a few hours. New York police say there were no explosives at the subway station at the time.
New York Governor Kathy Hochul wrote on Twitter that the first responders were at the scene and promised further updates as the investigation was carried out.

New York Police Department Commissioner Keechant Sewell told a news conference that the gunman was wearing a gas mask when the train arrived at 36th Street.
“He opened the canister in his bag and the car filled with smoke. After that he started firing,” Sewell said.
The Brooklyn shooting is not being investigated as an act of terror: New York police
The shooting on Tuesday in a New York subway station was not being investigated as a terrorist act, authorities said, adding that 10 people had been shot dead but no one was in a “life-threatening” condition.
“This is not being investigated as an act of terrorism at this time,” New York City police commissioner Keechant Sewell told reporters. “It is reported that we do not have any casualties in the accident as a result of this case.”

“We are deeply concerned about the horrific shooting in Brooklyn today. We are in contact with local authorities. Our prayers and thoughts for the injured,” tweeted the Indian ambassador to New York.
The fire was burning in the train car, said a passenger
Smoke was also spotted at the scene and a passenger told local media that a fire had been lit inside the train car.
