21 Men Arrested: Delhi Jahangirpuri violence, 21 people arrested by Delhi police; Police said two children were arrested.
21 Men Arrested in Delhi : people have been arrested in connection with the northwestern Delhi Jahangirpuri riot last night, in which eight policemen and one police officer were injured.
Police said the two children were arrested for violence during a Hanuman Jayanti parade.
Three locally owned firearms and five swords were confiscated from the detainees, police said. The suspects have already appeared in court.
Among the men arrested was Aslam, who, police, shot dead Delhi police detective Medalal Meena. A shotgun was found in the country.
Another man, Ansar, who allegedly came with four or five people and started arguing with members of the procession near the mosque, was also arrested. The argument escalated to the point of being stoned to both sides.
In a video released this afternoon, a second man was also seen firing a gun. Police said he had been identified and was still trying to apprehend him.
The clash erupted last night between two communities during a procession by Hanuman Jayanti. Both sides blame each other for starting the violence.
Muslims in the area say those involved in the Hanuman Jayanti march are armed and are trying to destroy the mosque.
Participants in the procession admitted to carrying weapons but blamed Muslim violence for allegedly throwing stones at them.
Police have registered the case under categories related to conflict, attempted murder and the Arms Act. Ten teams from the Criminal Justice and Special Cell units have been formed to investigate the matter.
Last week, civil unrest erupted in four provinces – Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Jharkhand and West Bengal – during a celebration of Ram Navami, a celebration marking Lord Ram’s birth.
This is the first public outbreak in the national capital since the February 2020 riots in northeastern Delhi that left more than 50 people dead and dozens injured.
They also allegedly found a firearm in Md Aslam, a slum dweller in Jahangirpuri CD Park, which he allegedly used during a crime scene on Saturday evening. Deputy Commissioner of Police (North West) Usha Rangnani said the FIR was registered on Saturday under section 307 (attempted murder), 120 B (criminal conspiracy), 147 (riot) and other relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code and and the Arms Act.
