The profiles of the 10 AAP MLAs who were sworn in as Punjab ministers on Saturday are as follows.
Cheema, Harpal
He was re-elected for a second term as the MLA for Dirba. He is a barrister by trade and is close to Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann. In the previous Vidhan Sabha session, he was the Leader of the Opposition and was noted for raising public problems.
Dr. Baljit Kaur is a neurologist.
She is a first-time member of the Malout Legislative Assembly. She is the daughter of former AAP MP Prof Sadhu Singh, who is a doctor. She had resigned from the administration to pursue a political career.
Vijay Singla, M.D.
He is a dentist by trade and a first-time MLA representing Mansa. He comes from a low-income family and has been a member of the party for the past five years. In this election, he defeated Punjabi singer Sidhu Moosewala. Surprisingly, the musician had previously been a patient of the dentist.
ETO Harbhajan Singh
He is the MLA for the Majha region’s Jandiala. He was an Excise and Taxation Officer in the Punjab government before his voluntary retirement, as is clear. He ran unsuccessfully for the AAP in the 2017 elections, but this time he won by a large margin.
Bains, Harjot Singh
In Punjab, he was a founding member of the Aam Aadmi Party. He represents Anandpur Sahib and is well-educated, having graduated from the London School of Economics. He was a member of Anna Hazare’s anti-corruption movement.
Meet Hayer, Gurmeet Singh, 32
Meet Hayer, the son of a PSPCL employee, attended Barnala’s BGS Public School. He is a mechanical engineer by trade and was one of the first few people to get involved in the anti-corruption campaign in India. At the age of 27, he became one of the youngest MLAs in Punjab assembly when he defeated Congress leader Kewal Dhillon in 2017. He is also the party’s youth wing’s president.
Lal Chand Kataruchak, 52
Lal Chand Kataruchak previously worked for the CPM. Lal Chand Pasla joined Mangat Ram Pasla’s Punjab-based party when he separated from the CPM two decades ago. Lal Chand ran for Bhoa as a Revolutionary Marxist Party of India candidate in the 2017 election and lost. He won the seat as an AAP candidate in 2022. He has been combating illegal mining for many years.
Laljit Singh Bhullar, 41
By trade, Laljit Singh Bhullar is an agriculturist and a commission agent. He defeated former minister Adesh Partap Singh Kairon to become a member of the Patti Legislative Assembly. He was a member of SAD for numerous years before leaving due to sacrilege occurrences. In 2018, he rejoined SAD, but in 2019 he defected to AAP.
Braham Shankar Jimpa, 57
Braham Shankar Jimpa defeated former industries minister Sunder Sham Arora to become an MLA in Hoshiarpur. He is the 12th person to pass. He was the Punjab Industry Development Board’s deputy chairman. He began his political career with the Congress and served as a councillor in Hoshiarpur’s municipal committee. In local body elections, he was refused the Congress ticket, but he ran independently and won.
Dhaliwal, Kuldeep Singh
Kuldeep Singh Dhaliwal is a farmer who was elected to the Ajnala Legislative Assembly. He has completed his matriculation. Before returning to India in 2014, he spent some time in the United States. Since then, he has been farming. In 2019, he ran for Lok Sabha as an AAP candidate from Khadoor Sahib. He then became the AAP’s district president. He ran for the first time in the assembly election from Ajnala and won.
