India’s workforce lost 38 Lakhs in March as the labour market showed signs of an economic crisis, CMIE reported. This is the lowest level in eight months. The CMIE said millions of people have left the labour market, have even stopped looking for work, and are so frustrated that they can’t find work and believe they don’t have a job.
However, the government denied this claim and said it was not true to conclude that half of the working-age population had lost their hopes of finding a job. The working-age population has been displaced from the workforce because a significant portion of the workforce was either educated or engaged in unpaid activities such as nursing.
The consumer price index (CPI) in March recorded a 17-month high of 6.95%, and the wholesale price index (WPI) recorded a four-month high of 14.55%. With high inflation gripping the pockets of millions in India, the central bank is now expected to raise rates at its monetary policy meeting in June.
What did Government and experts say about the unemployment rate in 2022 in India:-
According to Rumki Majumdar, an economist at Deloitte India, India faces great challenges in creating jobs in a wide range of sectors as well as a wide range of jobs for young people. Due to the pandemic (global pandemic), the quality of domestic jobs has deteriorated.
Economists say employment opportunities have been hampered by slowing economic recovery amid sluggish domestic demand and rising inflation.
The government said in the Quarterly Employment Survey (QES) released on April 28 that 400,000 jobs were created in nine key sectors, including trade, manufacturing and information technology, from October to December 2021.
