Manchester United are going through big changes after another disappointing season, but former midfielder David Beckham is hoping Cristiano Ronaldo will stay for at least another year.
Manchester United’s 4-0 wins at Brighton & Hove Albion over the weekend means they can’t finish above 6th.
Old Trafford has appointed Ajax Amsterdam manager Eric Ten Hag to replace interim manager Ralph Rangnick after the recent campaign ends. The Dutch are anticipated to rebuild their team at the end of the season.
Ronaldo has scored 24 goals in all tournaments this season, Beckham who also wore United’s 7th shirt and hopes the 37-year-old striker will stay.
“It’s important to him. We all know how important United is to him. He’s still doing his best.” Beckham told Sky Sports at the Miami Grand Prix.
“It’s amazing what he’s doing at that age, so I hope it continues for the next year or two.”
“It was a tough end to the season. But having finished the season, I’m sure a lot of fans were grateful for it because it was tough – full of ups and downs,” he added
Just like the coach, the players did their best. When I went to the stadium a few months ago, all the seats were full and the fans still believe in the team and cheer for them.
“That’s what Manchester United fans do. Few teams have gone through what they have been through over the past few years and are still filling the pitch. There will be changes,” he said.
Beckham, who won six Premier League titles with United, said fans were there at a difficult time. Manchester United’s last win was in 2012-13.
Former United and Real Madrid midfielder Beckham is currently the co-owner of MLS side Inter Miami.
