Despite the loss, Lakshya had a fantastic season, as he became the first Indian male player to reach the final of the All England Open in 21 years.
India’s Lakshya Sen did not make history when he lost the men’s singles final to Denmark’s Viktor Axelsen in Birmingham on Sunday 20 March.
She from the beginning dominated the first match. Lakshya got 10 points, but for most of the game he just played catch-up. The Danish player needed 22 minutes to win the opening game.
The Olympic champion was the most brutal in the final, showing why he is currently the No. 1 male player in the world.
Lakshya showed more combat in game two as both shuttles played sensational rallies. But in the end, Axelsen proved to be far too good for the 21-year-old Indian. Not to mention that Axelsen was beaten by Sen just a week ago at the German Open, but this time he was better prepared.
Despite the loss, it was a brilliant campaign for Lakshya as he became the first Indian player to reach the All England Open final in 21 years. Former India head coach Pullela Gopichand was the last Indian to appear in the All England men’s singles final. The year 2022 was exceptional for Sen as he beat all the top ranked players in no time.
