AK-47, also called Kalashnikov model 1947, Soviet assault rifle, perhaps the most widely used long gun in the world. The initials AK stand for Avtomat Kalashnikova, Russian for “Automatic Kalashnikov”, for its designer Mikhail Timofeyevich Kalashnikov, who designed the accepted version of the weapon in 1947.
We’re sure you’ll be impressed with the scene in the first half of KGF: Chapter 2 where Rocky defeats Adheera with the KGF 2 gun “Kalashnikov Rifle” arsenal. The Rocking Star destroys Adheera’s army with 1000 bullets at once. After seeing this scene on the big screen, you would definitely google this gun. To help you, we have written some interesting facts about the Kalashnikov rifle.
Automatic Kalashnikov details
Almost since its official introduction by the Soviet military in 1949, the AK -47 was considered easy to use, rugged, reliable in harsh conditions, and suitable for mass production. It was built around a 7.62mm cartridge with a muzzle velocity of approximately 700 meters per second, had a cyclic rate of fire of 600 rounds per minute, and was capable of firing both semi-automatic and automatique.
A long curved box magazine held 30 rounds and a separate gas return tube above the barrel contained a piston which was pushed back on firing to activate mechanisms which ejected the spent cartridge and cocked the hammer for the next round. The AK-47 was produced in two basic models, one with a wooden stock and the other, designated AKS, with a folding metal stock.
From 1959, the AK-47 was replaced in Soviet frontline service by the AKM, a modernized version equipped with longer range sights and cheaper mass-produced parts, including a sheet metal receiver stamped and a plywood stock and foregrip.
Despite their obvious advantages, the AK-47 and AKM were considered by the Soviet military to have accuracy problems, primarily due to the recoil forces generated by the powerful 7.62mm cartridge and other forces. called recoil, produced by weapons. heavy internal mechanisms.
These problems were partially resolved in the 1970s when the AKM was replaced by the AK-74, which adapted the basic Kalashnikov design to a smaller 5.45mm cartridge with a higher muzzle velocity of 900 meters per second. A later version of the AK-74, the AK-74M, was the main infantry weapon of the Russian army until the 21st century.
After the 1970s, research continued into possible successors to the AK-47/74 series, most of which included means to reduce the effects of recoil and recoil. One candidate, the AN-94, allowed two rounds to be fired in rapid succession before recoil forces were generated. Other candidates, the AK-107 and AEK-971, introduced mechanical parts whose movements balanced those of the recoil-generating mechanisms.
However, none of these weapons were accepted for standard delivery to the Russian army. In 2018, the Russian military began introducing two new AK family rifles – the AK-12 and AK-15 – as possible replacements for the AK-74M. The AK-12 retained the 5.45mm caliber introduced with the AK-74, but the AK-15 reverted to the Soviet-era 7.62mm cartridge. Both weapons featured a modernized chassis that allowed mounting of scopes, foregrips, and other tactical accessories.
Kalashnikov assault rifles remain the staple long guns of many armies that once had political and military ties to the Soviet Union, and have long been the weapon of choice for many guerrilla and nationalist movements across the world.
The symbolic value of the AK-47 for such movements is demonstrated by its presence on the coats of arms of many countries, as well as on the flag of Mozambique. It has been estimated that around 100 million AKs were produced – half of them outside of Russia and many of them with expired Soviet-era licenses or without a license. A full range of weapons, the design history of which dates back to the AK-47, is manufactured by the Izhmash arms company in Izhevsk, Russia.
