Johnny Depp vs Amber Heard Case 2022, Johnny wins the defamation. Amber now has to pay $15 Million as damages.
Johnny Depp vs Amber Heard Case 2022, A jury on Wednesday ruled in favour of Johnny Depp in a defamation proceeding against his ex-wife Amber Heard, alleging that she had been molested by Johnny before and during a short marriage. In a unanimous decision, the jury ruled that Amber had defamed Johnny when she claimed to be a victim of her domestic violence. Amber was ordered to pay $ 15 million in damages.
The jury also ruled in favor of Amber, who said she had been defamed by Johnny’s lawyer when she called the allegations of abuse fraudulent. The judge decided that Johnny Depp should be indemnified for $ 15 million and Amber Heard should be indemnified for $ 2 million.
The decision ends a television trial that the Pirates of the Caribbean Star wanted to help restore its reputation, but it became a spectacle of a malicious marriage. An overwhelming number of Johnny fans watched overnight to secure a seat in the courtroom. Audiences who couldn’t line up on the street cheered him up and cursed amber every time one of them appeared outside.
Depp was awarded $ 10 million for defamation and $ 5 million for punitive damages, but in Virginia, where the proceedings were attempted, the maximum punitive damages are $ 350,000.
It was also one of the first major celebrity trials in the social media era, where users re-enacted witness testimony and created a meme about the case. Fan support overwhelmingly favoured Depp, and the hashtag #JusticeForJohnnyDepp reached about 10 billion views on TikTok.
Depp had previously lost a defamation proceeding in the London High Court and sued in 2018 for calling Sun’s newspaper a “wife’s beater.”
The case was heard in Fairfax, Virginia, where the Washington Post has a printing facility. Heard didn’t give Depp her name in her comment.
Heard told the seven juries that Depp repeatedly attacked her throughout their relationship and provided photos, footage and videos to prove her case. Her lawyer read a text that Depp said “I want to burn” Heard.
Depp denied her allegations of abuse and stated that she was the one who beat him. Both accused Depp of throwing a bottle of vodka in 2015 and aired details of the unstable relationship, including the case of amputating her middle finger. But Heard said Depp was the one who attacked her with a bottle.
Johnny said he never hit Heard and never lost control while drinking, although Amber’s attorney pointed to messages Johnny sent to friends recounting how much alcohol and drugs he was drinking at the time. His attorneys also show that Johnny sent text messages apologizing to Heard for his behaviour and wrote obscene messages to a friend in which Depp said he wanted to kill Heard and unclean his body.
Heard told the jury at some point in her testimony that Depp remained very attractive when he was calm and she believed he could change. Researchers have found that a common pattern of abusive relationships is a partner who alternates between violence, apology, and pleasant behaviour.
Still, Depp’s lawyer accuses Heard of being a gross forgery in a year-long plot to ruin Depp’s reputation for financial interests, and a photo of Heard revealing a bruise on her face. Suggested that it may have been digitally manipulated. Rather than standing up as a victim of domestic violence, Heard spun “an explanation of elaborate and exaggerated fantastic abuse” and showed “the performance of her life” in court, Vasquez said.
There were many false accusations against Depp by Amber but in the end, we all know who was a victim.
