IPL Media Rights Auction 2022, Star India got the domestic T.V rights and Viacom 18 got the digital rights.
IPL Media Rights Auction 2022, Star India has acquired the television rights to broadcast the Indian Premier League (IPL) domestically for INR 23,575 crores. The BCCI announced it on June 14th.
Viacom 18, which has acquired digital rights (Package B), also grabbed Package C. Package C contains 98 game rights for 5 years in the non-exclusive digital category. After the acquisition, the company now owns digital rights to all games in India.
Trading for Package C ended at Rs 33.24 Crore per game. This is more than double the base price of Rs16 Crore. Interestingly, it is above the base price of Package B (Digital Rights of the Indian Subcontinent), which is 33 crore rupees. Meanwhile, according to the report, the winner of Package D with a base price of 3 crore rupees per game will be announced shortly. The package contains the rights to all games (television and digital combination) for overseas markets. There was reportedly a fierce bidding war between Zee and Sony over the package.
When the sum of the first three packages A, B and C reaches 47,332.52 crore rupees, the auction will exceed 50,000 crore rupees. Previously, Disney Star held broadcasting rights (Package A) for 57.5 crore rupees per game and Viacom India has acquired digital rights for 48 crore rupees per game.
“The bid is a direct testimony to the BCCI’s organisational capabilities despite two pandemic years,” Jay Shah, the secretary of Bcci, said.
