Sam Manekshaw played a pivotal role in the past of the Indian Army, especially during the Indo-Pakistani War of 1971. He was instrumental in leading the Indian forces to a decisive victory which led to the creation from Bangladesh.
Sam Manekshaw retired from the Indian Army in 1973 and lived a quiet life in his later years. He died on June 27, 2008 in Wellington, Tamil Nadu, India.
