Escaype Live Review: A Disney+ hotstar web series about the dark and evil side of the internet.
Escaype Live Review: The all-star web series points to the dangers of social media and what goes on when content creators push boundaries to “win”. But alas, the series cannot intelligently handle such a relevant and profound concept. In the end, despite some strong performances and a promising storyline, the series ended with the guilt of trying too much and succeeding too little.
The premise of Escyape Live is very simple. A Chinese video-sharing app has arrived in India (remember TikTok?) And has started a contest for all users. The person who gets the most “diamonds” (a kind of super-like) in the video in a month gets 3 crore rupees.
The story features a set of content creators with different paths, but one goal is to create viral content to win a life-changing competition. Next, we’ll show you how these diverse creators, from Rajasthan’s, 11-year-old to Delhi’s mischievous to Mumbai’s parkour artists, endanger their lives, health and sanity to win.
This concept makes sense and may be necessary. In recent years, we’ve seen how social media can lead to toxicity. From challenges to toxic disvideos, Indian social media is quite controversial. Escaype Live had the opportunity to work on it all. And it has become easier. This show mainly introduced various creators and people of the app itself. Siddharth acts as a content moderator for non-ethical organizations. Realizing that Escaype Live may be tampering with his competitors, he set out to reveal them internally. Parallel tracks show that creators’ lives are upside down in search of victory.
The cast contains a lot of familiar faces, many of which stand out here. Jaaved Jaaferi shines as the evil and sinister CEO of Escaype Live. It’s encouraging to see how good he is in a negative role. Siddharth is an effortlessly moral compass for the show, but it seems to be somewhat restricted, probably due to its role and screenplay. We have seen a much better job from him in the past. Shweta Tripathi Sharma plays the girl in the little town of UP again. It’s certainly amazing how she was able to bring diversity to essentially the same role. Plabita Bolthakur, a waitress who works part-time as a camgirl in a private room, plays her role well.
Writer, producer and director Siddharth Kumar Tewary talks about his social thriller Escaype Live. Siddharth Kumar Tewary has done some of the biggest shows on television, including the Magnum Opus Mahabharta. He marks his OTT debut with Escaypelive. This is the 9-episode series of Disney + Hotstar, which has become a hot topic recently. In a chat, Siddharth talks about his series. This reflects the impact of today’s social media and why it is unique.
