Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has removed a few chapters from history and the political science syllabus for classes 11 and 12, including the Non-Aligned Movement, the Cold War period, the rise of Afro Islamic empires -Asian. locations, history of Mughal courts and industrial revolution. Similarly, in the 10th class syllabus, the topic of “the impact of global trade on agriculture” from the chapter on ‘Food Security’ has been removed.
The reduced chapter “Central Islamic Countries” in the history syllabus of the 11th class discusses the growth of Islamic empires in the Afro-Asian region and its economic and social implications, according to the description in last year’s syllabus. The chapter focuses on Islamic forums about its emergence, caliphate rise and empire formation.
Similarly, in the history syllabus of the 12th class, a discounted chapter entitled ‘Mughal Court: Rebuilding History through Chronicles’ explores the history of Mughal courts to reconstruct the Mughals’ social, religious, and cultural history.

Asked about the reason for the withdrawal of articles or chapters, officials insisted that the changes were part of the syllabus adjustment and complied with the recommendations of the National Council for Educational Research and Training (NCERT).
The syllabus shared with schools for the 2022-23 education session also highlights the board’s decision to return to the one-board exam during the two-term exam last year. The historical syllabus of the CBSE Class 11 no longer includes the chapter ‘Central Islamic Lands’. As explained in the description in last year’s syllabus, this chapter discusses the growth of Islamic empires in the Afro-Asian region and its impact on the economy and society.
