Agnimitra Paul, a BJP MLA, has been nominated as the party’s candidate for the Asansol Lok Sabha constituency. Shatrughan Sinha of the Trinamool Congress will be Paul’s opponent.
The BJP has announced its candidates for West Bengal by-elections, with party MLA Agnimitra Paul running for the Asansol Lok Sabha constituency. Shatrughan Sinha, her party’s former MP from Patna Sahib, will be Paul’s opponent.
Shatrughan Sinha defected from the BJP to the Congress. He ran for the Congress in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections from Patna, but lost to BJP’s Ravi Shankar Prasad. After that, the actor-turned-politician joined the Trinamool Congress and is now the ruling party’s candidate for Asansol.
Agnimitra Paul, a well-known fashion designer, defeated actor and TMC candidate Sayani Ghosh for the Asansol Dakshin assembly seat in the Bengal Assembly elections of 2021.
