In the export documentation, the antique idol was described as “new bronze antique finish idol.”
Customs officers in Tamil Nadu seized an ancient idol which was declared as a “New Ancient Bronze Idol” in the export documents. Based on specific information, officials from the Customs Intelligence Unit (CIU), Bengaluru Airport and the Air Cargo Commissioner intercepted cargo at the international courier terminal intended for export to Malaysia by an exporter based in Tamil Nadu.
The 28-year-old exporter from Kumbakonam was arrested and taken into custody. Further investigations are ongoing.
