Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) key witness in Aryan Khan’s drug case, Prabhakar Sail, died on Friday, April 1, ANI reported. According to Sail’s lawyer, Tushar Khandare, the cause of death was a heart attack. “Sail passed away yesterday from a heart attack at his home in Mahul area of Chembur,” Khandare said.
Sail was an independent witness and accused NZB officials of extortion related to the drug deal. He then recorded his testimony in October 2021 regarding his allegation of attempted blackmail by NZB officials in the case of the drug seizure of film star Shah Rukh Khan’s son, Aryan Khan, an official said on Wednesday.
Sail, one of the main witnesses in the case, had claimed to have overheard KP Gosavi, another witness in the raid on the cruise ship, phone a certain Sam D’Souza about a claim of Rs 25 crore of which Rs 8 crore had been told to Sameer Wankhede, police said. At the time, Sail was protected by the city police following the revelations he had made in his application.
The case made headlines after the 23-year-old son of Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan was arrested by the NCB on October 3 after a raid on a cruise ship off Mumbai. The Central Authority had charged him under the relevant sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act (NDPS) for possession, consumption, sale/purchase of prohibited drugs and conspiracy and aiding and abetting.
On October 28, he was released on bail by the Bombay High Court. The HC had imposed 14 bail conditions on him and his co-defendants Arbaaz Merchant and Munmun Dhamecha, who was also released on bail. In the five-page order, the HC said the trio must surrender their passports to the NDPS tribunal and must not leave India without permission from the special tribunal and must visit the NCB office every Friday. between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. to mark his presence.
