The successful training launch of the intermediate-range ballistic missile Agni 4 was carried out on Monday by APJ Abdul Kalam Island in Orissa.
India conducted a “daily user training” launch test of its nuclear-capable Agni 4 missile on Monday, reaffirming its minimal credible deterrence. Agni and Prithvi are the two major nuclear missiles in the country.
The Defence Ministry said the successful test was part of the start of regular user training conducted “with the support of Strategic Forces Command.”
The Agni 4 is an intermediate-range ballistic missile with a range of approximately 4,000 km. Developed by the Defence Research and Development Organization (DRDO), it can carry a load of 1,000 kg and has a range of up to 900 km.
Strategic Forces Command conducted user trials in 2014, 2015, 2017 and 2018. Strategic Forces Command has operational responsibility for all of India’s nuclear assets. India is one of the few countries with nuclear triads capable of launching nuclear missiles from land, air and submarines.

“A successful training launch of an Intermediate-Range Ballistic Missile, Agni-4, was carried out at approximately 1930 hours [7.30 pm] on June 6 from APJ Abdul Kalam Island, Odisha,” the Defence Ministry said in a statement.
The ministry stated that the “launch validated all operational parameters as also reliability of the system”, and “reaffirms India’s policy of having a Credible Minimum Deterrence Capability”.
Agni Missile has 5 variants yet. India is also developing Agni VI in the series it’s gonna have a range of 10,000 km, as per the reports.
Tessy Thomas ‘Missile Woman’ of India, was the former project director for Agni 4.
