In 2019, an AK-47 rifle, two hand grenades and 26 live rounds were seized from Anant Singh’s home in his home village and the MP-MLA court found him guilty of the offense on June 14. Along with Anant Singh, the guardian of his house, Sunil Ram, was also sentenced to 10 years in prison. MP-MLA Supreme Court Justice Triloki Dubey announced the ultimate sentence to the RJD MP and his caretaker.
His conviction in this case will cost him his term in the Bihar Assembly. Anant Singh is currently the MP for Mokama Assembly Constituency of Patna District.
Sunil Singh, Anant Singh’s attorney (defendant) upheld the 10-year prison sentence.
“We are going to appeal to the higher court to challenge the decision of the MP-MLA tribunal. If we can get a reprieve from this Supreme Court ruling, Anant Singh’s term of office will stand,” Singh said.
This morning, Anant Singh arrived in a prison ambulance at the MP-MLA court in Pirbahore district.
On August 16, 2019, a team of Patna Police led by then City SP Lipi Singh raided the home of Anant Singh in his home village Nadwa, under the police station.As Barh Police Theory the raiding team had seized an AK-47 rifle, 26 live rounds and two hand grenades While the AK-47 rifle was hidden behind a large box in a barracks , the hand grenades were recovered from the adjacent barracks.
Police said the AK-47 was evenly wrapped in a plastic bag, followed by layers of charcoal to avoid detection by metal detectors during transport.
At the time of the raid, Anant Singh was not in Bihar. He fled to Delhi and surrendered to the Magistrate’s Court.Bihar police arrested him and placed him behind bars in Patna Beur prison. Since then, he has been imprisoned in Beur prison.
During the three-year hearing of the case, prosecutors brought 13 witnesses and their testimonies were recorded in court. The defense also called 34 witnesses.
Hearings in the case ended on June 13 and he was found guilty on June 14.
