Cases of monkeypox: With the globe still reeling from the consequences of the Covid epidemic, the emergence of a new illness has many people worried.

1. Monkeypox, a disease far worse than its cousin smallpox, is endemic to 11 countries in West and Central Africa.
2. The virus was detected in 1958 in monkeys kept for research. The first human case of monkeypox was recorded in 1970.
3. The World Health Organization (WHO) has warned that 200 cases of monopoly found in recent weeks outside the countries of the epidemic may be just the beginning. “We know we will have more cases in the coming days,” said Sylvie Briand, a WHO official on epidemics and epidemics and prevention.
