Sanjay Raut claimed last month that a senior BJP leader had donated Rs 57 crore to save the INS Vikrant plane. Raut even called for a rebellion against Somayai.
The ongoing dispute between Shiv Sena MP Sanjay Raut and BJP leader Kirit Somayai has turned unpleasantly after his wife, Professor Medha Somayai, filed a Rs 100 crore defamation lawsuit against the Shiv Sena leader in Bombay High Court on Monday.
Medha asked High Court to instruct Raut to either compensate her or donate the amount to the Chief Minister’s relief fund. She also sought an interim ruling prohibiting Raut from making any further public claims about the couple and their families. A hearing date has not yet been announced.
Medha also urged the Supreme Council to instruct Raut in the next issue of Shiv Sena Mouthpiece Saamana “to fully apologize to Medha and withdraw the allegations and accusations made in the controversial libel article/material”.
Raut claimed last month that a senior BJP leader had donated Rs 57 crore to save the INS Vikrant plane. Raut even called for a rebellion against Somayi.
Somayi, on the other hand, asked Raut to provide evidence to support his claim to Maharashtra’s chief minister, Uddhav Thackeray.
“Crores of people paid him while Kirit Somayai was wearing a t-shirt to save (INS) Vikrant. Also, he raised crores from several companies to save INS Vikrant. The traitor Kirit Somayi has raised 57 crore rupees,” Raut said at a press conference.
Raut went on to tell the press that Somayai had not deposited funds with the governor’s office. “I have a letter from the governor’s office. The RTI activist asked if the money raised to save Vikrant… went to the governor. They mentioned that there was no such money. This is a betrayal and treason against national security.”
Raut also claimed that the donated money was used to fund the campaign. Raut said Somayi also used some of his son’s company money.
