Water Crisis in Delhi 2022, Delhi’s water supply is likely to be shut down starting from Friday as water levels in Wazirabad Pond have dropped to very low levels after Haryana drained less water from the Yamuna. Parts of Delhi are likely to face water shortages as water levels in the Yamuna River have dropped to critical levels from today on 13 May. Delhi government officials said water treatment plants in Wazirabad, Chandrawal and Okhla were affected. “The water supply will be shut off from Friday morning until water levels in Wazirabad Pond return to normal,” they said.
The level of water in the pond at Wazirabad has declined from a regular level of 674.5 ft to 671.8 ft.
There is a potential for water outages in some areas: Kamla Nagar, Model City, Civil Lines, Karol Bagh, Greater Kailash, Punjabi Bagh, Moolchand, Burari, Tughlakabad, Kalkaji, Sangam Vihar, Patel Nagar, Gulabi Bagh, Jahangirpuri, Delhi. Area Cantt and New Delhi City Council Area.
Even the flow via CLC (Carrier-Lined Channel) and DSB (Delhi Sub-Branch) is fluctuating… The lifting of 120 cusec of water from the Wazirabad pond is affected due to the low pond level. This will affect water production adversely. Due to peak summer, the water requirement is more,” the SOS sent to the Haryana irrigation department.
“An additional 150 cusecs of raw water must be supplied via the DD8/River route to ensure that 120 cusecs of raw water can flow into Wazirabad Pond during a crisis before the rainy season arrives”, the statement said. It can be seen as an SOS for the broader public good of the national capital.” Officials said water treatment plants in Wazirabad, Chandrawal and Okhla were affected.

Haryana supplies Delhi with 610 million gallons of water daily through two canals, CLC, DSB and Yamuna. CLC and DSB are supplied with water from Hathnikund via the Munak Canal and the Barkha beas Management Board. Delhi will also receive 253 MGD from Uttar Pradesh through the Upper Ganga Canal, and 90 MGD will be obtained from the Runny and Pipe wells located in the city.
